Building bridges in our community through the shared experience of live theatre.
ABOUT US
ShenanArts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community theatre, founded in 1981.
MISSION
Our mission is to build bridges in our community through the shared experience of live theatre.
MAINSTAGE
Each year ShenanArts produces an ambitious schedule of plays and musicals by and for participants of all ages, always striving for material that appeals to the broad tastes of the community, to promote a culture of excellence and inclusion.
EDUCATION
At the heart of ShenanArts has always been theatre education for children. In keeping with this focus, in 2009, the Presbury Theatrical Training Program (PTTP) was founded in memory of longtime, dedicated volunteer Lin Presbury. PTTP provides quality training that ignites excitement for the performing arts in aspiring young actors K-12 and encourages the continued development of creativity and imagination. This enrichment program runs in two 16-week semesters: spring and fall.
Our Space
ShenanArts’ home is within the walls of The Hilltop, (formerly the old Robert E. Lee High School) located at 300 Churchville Ave in Staunton, Virginia. The Hilltop is a registered National Landmark that was built in 1928 and renovated in 1953.
ShenanArts utilizes on-site rehearsal space, large set and costume shops, spacious dressing rooms, upgraded technical abilities, and a 341-seat audience capacity. The stage is a traditional proscenium stage with custom-built extensions for various configurations.
Our Board
ShenanArts is directed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
OUR VOLUNTEERS
We rely on a host of dedicated community volunteers to maintain all aspects of our theatre. All of our actors, production crew, musicians, and behind-the-scenes and front-of-house personnel are volunteers! Your support is key to our success. Please consider the many opportunities to get involved.
