Casting

Catherine – (character age: early 20s) Catherine is a quick-witted, brilliant, and troubled young woman. Though she has an exceptional talent for mathematics and can be highly successful in the field, she puts her life on hold when her father, Robert, falls ill. One major thing she struggles with is the fear that her father’s mental illness may be passed on to her. Catherine is prone to depression and some days can barely find the strength to do simple tasks. Beneath the troubled exterior is a funny, smart, and kind person.

Claire – (character age: mid – late 20s) Claire is Catherine’s older sister who has to be the responsible one due to her sister’s instability. On the surface, Claure can come off as mean and pushy but that is far from the truth. Claire cares deeply for her sister and would do anything to help her. Her approach to solving problems is to face them head on which clashes with Catherine’s struggle to sometimes find motivation to do anything.

Robert – (character age: 50s-60s) Robert is Catherine and Claire’s father. He is a brilliant mathematician and beloved teacher at the University of Chicago. Since Catherine seems to have inherited his ability for math, he hopes that she will follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, with his genius comes a struggle with debilitating mental illness.

Hal – (character age mid-late 20s) Hal is one of Robert’s former pupils who hopes to obtain the same recognition as Robert in the field of mathematics one day. He is determined to be successful and sometimes that determination causes him to hurt others without meaning to. Hal sometimes is selfish and awkward but he usually means well. Hal has known the family for years.
